Never allow temporary defeats, thoughts of failure, or hardships to cause you to turn away from your purpose in life. Defeat and failure are nothing more than opinions. The truth is that you are never defeated until you give up and declare defeat. Failures are nothing more than the dues you have to pay to get where you want to be in life. They can only stop you when you decide to give them the power to do so. If you don’t quit, you can never be defeated!

How can you be defeated if the game is not over yet? Until you throw in the towel and declare defeat, the game is still being played. Consider a football game. It is played in four quarters. I have seen teams that have played awful during the first half of the game and were behind by more than five touchdowns by halftime, but that did not mean they were defeated because the game was not over. I have also seen a lot of those teams come back and win the game in the fourth quarter because they refused to give up and declare defeat.

This same principle applies to your goal of living a life of purpose and inner peace. You may have had some rough times, and you may have even felt defeated along the way, but the game is not over yet. As long as you are still working toward living your purpose in life, there is still time on the clock. The game is not over until you decide it is over, and you are not defeated, no matter what has happened in the past until you declare defeat. So don’t quit! Just keep playing the game and doing your best each and every day.
