Bruce Lee - Dragon - Bohdi Sanders

When you find yourself in a room surrounded by
your enemies, you should tell yourself, “I am not
locked in here with you, you are locked in here
with me!” This is the kind of mindset you
should have if you want to succeed in life.
Get rid of that victim mentality.
Bruce Lee

Never allow yourself to fall victim to a victim mentality. You are in control of your life, period. No matter what situation you may find yourself in, maintain control over yourself and your mind. There is a huge difference between seeing yourself locked in a room with your enemies and seeing your enemies locked inside a room with you. The first causes you to feel like a victim; the second gives you a feeling of power and control.

This mentality doesn’t just happen; it must be cultivated. It comes from confidence and consistently controlling your mind. It is so easy to fall into the trap of feeling like a victim. This victim mentality is how most people go through life. They constantly feel like victims of life instead of taking control of their lives and grasping the power that is there for the taking.

A good analogy would be if you were out on a large lake in a boat. If you just sit there, the currents, the waves, the wind, and storms will move your boat randomly. They may move you into a dangerous situations and take you into a direction that you do not want to go. But if you purposely take control of your boat by using the motor or oars, you are no longer a victim of the lake, but rather, you are now in control. You can take your boat wherever you want to go on the lake.

A victim mentality is giving up control to something or someone outside yourself. You must develop the mindset that you are in charge of your life. Don’t give control of your life to anyone else. Stop sitting back and allowing others to control your mind; maintain control of your mind, no matter what situation you find yourself in. Never see yourself as a victim!

You have no control over what anyone else does or what anyone else thinks. But you do have total control over how you live your life, what you do, what you say, and what you think. Develop the self-confidence to take the reins. Don’t simply leave your life to chance; take responsibility for your life.

When you are walking down the street and see a group of thugs on the street corner, don’t think to yourself, “Oh no, I hope these thugs don’t harass me.” Think to yourself, “These thugs better not harass me!” This may seem like a minor difference in attitude, but it is a powerful difference. The first one comes from a spirit of fear; the second comes from the spirit of power and confidence.

Will there be circumstance in life that you can’t control? Of course! Life throws everyone curve balls from time to time. It is how you respond that matters. Respond from a place of power, not helplessness. When life throws you a curve ball, don’t just stand there feeling sorry for yourself; step into it and knock it out of the park, and say, “Is that all you got!”

How you see life makes a big difference in what you experience in your life. Refuse to go through life seeing yourself a victim of one circumstance after another. Go through life as the captain of your own ship and take control of your life. Warrior up!
