Blue Dragon - Bohdi SandersCONJURE the POWER!

One of the benefits of true martial arts is being able to “conjure the power” when you need it. When I say “true martial arts,” I mean martial arts that are not watered down, not sport oriented, and not money oriented. I mean hard core martial arts that are taught as they are meant to be, down and dirty, one-punch, one-kill type martial arts.

My dear friend, GM Harry Greene’s 2.5 Second System is one of these arts. You don’t find these taught much anymore. These kinds of martial arts are serious business which teach fight-ending techniques, many which are also life-ending techniques. These martial arts instill the warrior energy in your soul, an energy of calm confidence and deadly seriousness.

When your back is to the wall and you know that everything is about to hit the fan, you must be able to both stay calm and shift your mind, body and spirit into a higher gear. You could call this gear your red alert mode where you are ready for imminent danger; and you are ready, willing and able to bring the destruction of the dragon to those who would do you harm.

In Asian culture, dragons were thought to possess potent powers and strength. They were thought to be extremely intelligent creatures of the water and sky which had power over waters and rain. If they were treated with honor and respect, they kept the waters calm and blessed the land with rain for the crops. But, if they were not treated with respect, they would bring destruction in the form of typhoons and floods.

When you meditate, see yourself as conjuring the power of the dragon. See yourself as wise, strong, and powerful, a person who can use wisdom, knowledge, and strength to help people or who can use your hard earned skills to destroy those who would do harm to you or those around you. This is what I call conjuring the power of the dragon. I also call this the warrior energy.

If you practice this seriously, you can conjure this power almost as easily as switching on a light. You see a dangerous situation ahead and boom, you go from relaxed and calm, to ready to do whatever needs to be done. When you conjure this power, you are ready to do whatever it takes to keep yourself and those around you safe. Your energy will immediately change.

This is not some imaginary, new age thing. Most people around you can see or sense the change. They can sense the warrior energy in your eyes. They won’t be able to understand what they are sensing, unless they are warriors, but they will sense something. Most people just describe it as a feeling that you are someone who shouldn’t be messed with, although they don’t know why. It is an interesting experience when someone tells you that they sensed this about you.

I have had many people tell me that they sense this about me. Some say that I seem unapproachable. Others describe it as looking mean or dangerous. And others simply say that they sense that I am someone who shouldn’t be messed with. Once they get to know me, they always seem surprised that I am actually a nice guy, but they still say that they sense they wouldn’t want to get on my wrong side.

This is not something that is unique to me. I have sensed this in many people I have run across. Once you understand this energy, you can easily sense it in someone else. Some simply call this being able to size the other guy up, but in reality, what you are doing is sensing his energy.

Learn to conjure this power when you need it. You must be able to flip this switch on a dime and go from a relaxed, wise dragon to a dragon ready to release an ocean of destruction if you need to. This only comes with practice and confidence.

You won’t develop this energy in a MacDojo or by screaming like a two-year-old throwing a fit when you do your katas. It is time to get serious about your martial arts training! Learn to conjure the power and quit treating martial arts like some exercise class. Get serious and learn to conjure the power! Whatever it takes!
