I enjoyed this thoughly, it captures what we try to express in our lives, often times nullified & void by the cultural & social interactions of a time, in which a "warrior" is not understood at all.
What a pity that we had to become so "cival"...to the point that nothing (family, friends, perceived honor) isn't replaceable, or worth fighting for.

Very true indeed. Samurai warrior or not, we should all try to treat other people with respect, regardless of their status, lifestyle, educational attainment, level of wisdom, and amount of money in the pocket. It is our obligation to treat others with respect, just like how we want to be treated ourselves. As the saying goes, "do unto others what you would like others do unto you." Such a fitting message to people nowadays who only like to think about themselves, not realizing that what you give comes back to you a hundredfold.

Hi Dave,

The warrior lifestyle is idealistic, but it is also achievable. Being a true warrior, doesn't mean being perfect, but it does mean trying your best to achieve perfection. It is a little more complicated than "trading principles for survival." Honor and the warrior lifestyle are not a matter of black and white choices, but a sophisticated and personal code which each must choose for himself...

Yes, it makes a senst! Growing up in my family ment doing exactly what was expected or being abandoned. There was no support, even when doing the right thing. I see now how wrong & harmful that thinking is. Thank you for teaching me.

That was indeed an enlightening explanation of what a real warrior is! There are many whom we call warriors or fighters but considering the true essence of a warrior as the author has eloquently defined, we might find only a handful who will match the description. The warrior lifestyle is ideal but isn't it rather unachievable at this present time - when principles are being traded off for survival?

I am curious now to read the rest of the posts and I'll surely be back for more thought-provoking quests!

Thanks for the question Dusteyrose.

Sticking by your friend means you support him, it doesn't necessarily mean that you approve of all of his actions. They may do something wrong, but does that mean that you abandon your friendship with them because they make a bad decision? No, that is not true friendship. You have to be there to support your friend, even though you don't support his action. You let them know that you can support that decision and you won't be a part of it, but that you are there for him when as a friend.

For example, your friend may do something totally wrong, that goes against your warrior code. You may totally disapprove of his actions, but if you are a true friend, you can't totally abandon him. You are there for him to try to help him regain his focus on what is right, to try to guide him, and if need be, to be there for him when the consequences of his actions crash down on him. This doesn't mean that you approve of his wrong actions; it simply means that you are there for him to help him as much as you can, right or wrong.

Does this make sense?
