Wicked Wisdom: The Dark Side
Wicked Wisdom: Explorations into the Dark Side
When you step beyond your own gate,
you face a million enemies.
Gichin Funakoshi
Criminals do not view the world in the same way that you or I do. Their view of the world is quite warped and twisted. Predators and criminals are a narcissistic lot who only think about their own personal desires and do not care who they have to step on to satisfy those desires. These people see life only in terms of what’s in it for them. They have no empathy for others; it’s all about them and their goals and desires.
Those desires can range from the common desire for riches to darker, more sadistic desires commonly seen in serial killers. The one thing that most criminals have in common, no matter what their ultimate desires may be, is that they have no concern for other people. They do not mind assaulting, injuring or killing anyone who stands between them and their cravings of the present moment.
This is what makes criminals dangerous instead of merely being a nuisance to society. These people are capable of the most extreme violence if they perceive you to be a threat to the achievement of their dark objectives. In fact, they can shift gears from being calm and collected to completely out of control rage, in a split second. Violence is actually the ultimate goal in itself for some criminals.
Many criminals are simply sadistic and get a thrill from inflicting pain on their innocent victims. These people are unpredictable, dangerous and have the potential to be deadly. Although criminals tend to be very unpredictable, depending on their mind-set from moment to moment, that doesn’t mean that we can’t have a general understanding of the criminal mind and what to expect from the different types of criminals and predators.
Criminals do not think like you or I. They look at most things in life completely differently than the average person. By understanding what criminals think about certain matters and how they perceive other people, and life in general, we can obtain insights into the criminal’s mind. This in turn allows us to understand how to successfully deal with criminals if we ever find ourselves in such an unfortunate position.
As the famed clinical psychologist and author, Dr. Stanton Samenow points out, “One can only decide what to do with such a person if you understand the day to day workings of the mind.” The more knowledge that you have concerning what to expect from criminal-minded individuals, the better your chances of survival will be if you ever encounter one of these dangerous predators. This is the purpose of Wicked Wisdom.
Wicked Wisdom is organized in short sections. Each section is made up of three parts: Dark Philosophy, The Enlightened Mind, and Real-life Examples. These three parts piece together the topic being discussed in the specific section to give the reader an overall understanding of what to expect from the criminal, how he views the specific topic, and how the enlightened or law-abiding citizen should view this topic. Each section also discusses how to deal with the criminal and ways to ensure your safety if applicable.
The Dark Philosophy component focuses mainly on how the criminal views the specific subject matter of that section. It gives the reader an overview of the theme and what to expect from the criminal. This module delves into an explanation of different criminal activities and attitudes which are common to criminal-minded individuals. The topics in this module range from extreme violent subjects to white-collar criminal thinking.
The Enlightened Mind component looks at the topic from the viewpoint of the individual who understands the criminal mind and knows how to counteract the criminal’s despicable actions. This part of each section also touches on how to ensure your safety and the safety of your family, as well as taking a look at the differences between the way the ordinary person and the criminal view the specific issues. General de-escalation techniques and self-defense suggestions are also covered in this module.
The last component of each section gives the reader specific, and at times bone-chilling, real-life examples that reinforce the points made concerning each topic. These true-life examples of criminal activities are edited accounts of actual events and depict the true nature of the criminal or the predator at work. It is all too easy to have the mind-set that “that kind of thing doesn’t happen here” or “those kinds of incidents are extremely rare.” As you will find out, criminal activity is much more common than you may think.
You will also find throughout Wicked Wisdom, contributions by other writers who are experts on the subject of effectively dealing with criminals, gang members, street thugs, and the like. These short expositions bring even more understanding to the topic of what to expect from the criminal mind and how to ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones in a dangerous world.
All of these writers, as well as Shawn and I, have tangible personal experience dealing with dangerous criminals and street thugs. Our combined knowledge is an invaluable contribution to your overall understanding of the predator and will go a long way towards keeping you safe. Knowledge is power, and this specific knowledge will empower you in situations involving both violent and nonviolent criminals.
Also, I use the terms criminal and predator interchangeably because when it comes down to it, all true criminals are predators in some form. The definition of a predator is an aggressive, determined, or persistent person, group, or state that steals from others or destroys others for gain. This is exactly what all true criminals do. In one way or another, they steal from others, whether it is their money, their life, or simply their peace of mind, they ultimately rob the innocent to achieve their own personal desires.
No matter how you slice it, the true criminal is a predator. The drug dealer preys on innocent people and in the end has stolen a part of their life. The thief preys on the innocent by stealing their possessions. The rapist steals his victim’s peace of mind, in addition to his the other horrific torture his inflicts on his victim. The serial killer is the ultimate predator; he steals the innocent victim’s most valuable possession – his or her life.
I use the term “true criminal” to make a distinction between someone who preys on other people and those people who have been arrested for victimless crimes such as possession of marijuana. Obviously, the person who has been arrested for possession of marijuana, or some other substance, should not be classified as a predator since he really has not harmed anyone; he has merely broken a statute. This is not to say that he is not classified as a criminal, but he is not a dangerous predator.
Ted Bundy, one of the worst serial killers of the modern age, stated, “We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of your children dead tomorrow.” It is our objective to hopefully make sure that your sons and daughters are not the next ones to make the headlines. We hope that the information contained in Wicked Wisdom will give you the understanding and knowledge needed to help ensure the safety and security of you and your family.
David Berkowitz, better known as Son of Sam, warned us all that, “I have several children who I’m turning into killers. Wait till they grow up!” Guess what? That was 33 years ago; they are all grown up now (an uplifting thought). Dangerous predators and common criminals are much more common than anyone realizes. You should have a general understanding of how these people think in order to have the best chance to walk away alive if you ever find that you have become the target of one of these animals.
If you understand, thing are just as they are.
If you do not understand, things are just as they are.
